The Interdisciplinary Center for the Family provides comprehensive programming to serve children, families and professionals concerned about autism and related disabilities. We offer a continuum of services, including multidisciplinary assessment, consultation, recommendations, and treatment. Parents are involved as integral members of our multidisciplinary team. The complex relationships between neurobiological (including sensory and language processing), genetic, and environmental components is considered, while maintaining an emphasis on the “whole” child.

Our evaluation focuses on identifying the child’s strengths, as well as challenges. We utilize the ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) as well as other diagnostic tools in an effort to provide a comprehensive assessment. We collaborate with local school and medical personnel, refer and consult with pediatricians, neurologists, psychiatrists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and audiologists when indicated to expand our multi-system model.

Clinical impressions and treatment recommendations resulting from team staffing are shared with parents. We offer language therapy, individual and/or parent-child psychotherapy (utilizing a relationship based model), and education for families. We also liaison with schools and other professionals as requested by parents, and when indicated by the child’s treatment plan. Children’s pair therapy, social skill groups, parent support and educational groups, in-services and workshops for parents and professionals are also available.

We welcome the opportunity to collaborate with community organizations, parent, and professional organizations, and to set up workshops and presentations on subjects related to autism, asperger’s and other related disabilities.
