Infant Toddler Mental Health
Parenting infants and young children can be a wonderful experience, but it can also be challenging and difficult. We are available to help enhance relationships between parents and their young children. We believe families function best when parents feel supported, secure and competent in their roles. We empower parents with a stronger understanding of their young children, so that the parent-child relationship offers more pleasure, joy and cooperation. We believe that it is within this context that children and their families are able to grow and develop to their fullest potential.
Our specialty areas include working with parents who feel their baby is too fussy or difficult to comfort, worry their baby is unusually quiet or uninterested in them, are concerned about how active their child is, have a child who frequently hits, kicks, bites or shows other aggressive behavior, are worried that their child is not eating or sleeping well, are worried that their own histories are getting in the way of their parenting, feel burdened by the demands of parenthood, and/or are worried about their parenting skills and would like support. Additionally, we work with families who have a baby or young child experiencing long and frequent tantrums, with difficulties around separation, who has been in foster care, who has experienced abuse or trauma, and/or who is experiencing difficulty in preschool or daycare.
Family services include comprehensive assessment and consultation, office or home-based parent-child psychotherapy, developmental guidance, communication evaluation and therapy, and childcare and school consultation.
We also offer training, consultation, and clinical supervision to professionals interested in the experiences of infants, young children and their families. Our therapists have advanced graduate training in the field of infant mental health and several of our staff have earned their endorsement from the Michigan Association for Infant Mental Health. |
